Investigators in Mysłowice have concluded an investigation into an international transport of waste without permits. A company director from Skawina will appear before the court, facing 218 charges.
The entire matter came to light in September last year. Road transport inspectors stopped a lorry carrying spent fire extinguishers on the A4 motorway. The driver did not possess the documents required for the transport of such cargo. The case was then taken over by officers from the local police headquarters.
During the proceedings, it emerged that a 43-year-old from the Apennine Peninsula was behind the entire operation. As head of a company based near Kraków, he organised the import of spent fire extinguishers from abroad. The goods arrived in Poland from three European countries: Italy, Norway, and Croatia.
The operation lasted from the beginning of 2024 until the point of apprehension. During that time, nearly 3,000 tonnes of hazardous waste were transported into the country. Everything took place without the knowledge of the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection, whose consent is mandatory in such cases.
The court decided to freeze the suspect's assets in an amount close to half a million zlotys. He now faces up to a decade in prison under the provisions concerning crimes against the environment.
