Policeman killed in Kraśnik Górny – 33-year-old with illegal firearm arrested
A court has ordered the arrest of Mariusz G., who shot a policeman during an intervention. The man had previously been convicted in Germany for illegal firearms.

According to polskieradio24.pl, the shooting occurred on Wednesday, 23 September during police operations at a property in Kraśnik Górny. Officers arrived there following information about the storage of items stolen from a nearby supermarket.
During operational-reconnaissance activities, which transitioned into investigative procedures, 33-year-old Mariusz G. returned to the scene and opened fire on one of the officers. The policeman died from the injuries he sustained.
The death of the policeman prompted a change in the legal classification of the offence. The district prosecutor in Bolesławiec, Sebastian Woźniak, announced that the previous charges – attempted murder and active assault on a police officer – will be replaced with a charge of killing a police officer combined with active assault. The change will take place after an autopsy is conducted. Both attempted murder and murder are punishable by 15 years to life imprisonment.
The investigation is ongoing. Prosecutor Woźniak emphasised that witness interrogations are continuing and evidence is being gathered, including a ballistics opinion. An autopsy of the victim is scheduled.
The firearm used by the suspect turned out to be illegal and unregistered. "The suspect possessed this firearm illegally. He was convicted in Germany for possession and illegal trafficking in weapons. He was sentenced there – in 2024, to a fine – indicated prosecutor Woźniak.
The 33-year-old Mariusz G. admitted to the allegations against him and provided a statement. For the sake of the investigation, the prosecutor's office is not disclosing the details. The man had previously been convicted multiple times in Germany, including for offences related to illegal transportation of weapons and ammunition. He also had conflicts with the law in Poland – approximately 10 years ago he was convicted of driving a car whilst under the influence of alcohol.
