Murder in Żyrardów – 77-year-old arrested, three-month detention ordered
On Sunday, 11 October, police in Żyrardów discovered the body of a 75-year-old man in a garage. The man's son reported the incident to the authorities, and the arrested 77-year-old was charged with murder and remanded in custody.
Discovery of body in garage
The County Police Headquarters in Żyrardów received a report on Sunday, 11 October at approximately 8.30 a.m. As wiadomosci.gazeta.pl reports, the 75-year-old's son alerted them, stating that there was a person showing no signs of life in a garage on the city premises. At the scene, officers found the man who had contacted them, as well as the property owner. The 75-year-old lay in the garage. A doctor confirmed his death.
Arrest and charges
Police arrested the 77-year-old, who was presented with a charge of murder. On Tuesday, 13 October, the court accepted the prosecutor's motion and ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for three months. Officers carried out procedural actions under the supervision of an investigator from the District Prosecutor's Office in Żyrardów.
Preliminary proceedings
The authorities are investigating the exact circumstances and course of events. Żyrardów police spokeswoman Junior Sergeant Monika Michalczyk told PAP that, in the interests of the investigation, she cannot disclose the findings so far regarding the motives for the murder and the victim's injuries. The 77-year-old faces a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
