Charges filed against teenager following woman's death in Jędrzejów

A tragedy occurred in the Świętokrzyskie town of Jędrzejów during the night of 9–10 July. A figure lying in wild, unused land was spotted by someone. Law enforcement officers called to the scene found a 29-year-old resident with no signs of life. Resuscitation efforts undertaken by emergency services proved unsuccessful.

Initial information gathered by officers suggested that someone else might be responsible for the death. A large-scale search operation was consequently ordered. Nearly 150 people participated in the operation – in addition to local police officers, colleagues from the provincial police headquarters in Kielce, riot control units, search dogs with handlers, and drones. At dawn on Friday, a 19-year-old from the Jędrzejów area was detained.

Following investigative steps taken, the prosecution charged the young man with two offences: attempted sexual assault and unlawful deprivation of life of the victim. During questioning, the teenager denied committing the alleged acts and waived his right to give further testimony. Prosecutors submitted a motion to the court for his remand in custody. For crimes of this kind, the penal code provides the most severe punishment – life imprisonment. The investigation is continuing, and investigators are working to establish an accurate account of the events.
