44-year-old wanted by Interpol arrested. He was hiding abroad for five years
A man sought by international services has been apprehended in Małopolska. The 44-year-old had been living outside the country for half a decade, evading punishment for crimes committed in 2016.
The District Court in Kraków had previously sentenced him to six years in prison for two robberies, during which the perpetrators used firearms. The first took place in Rabka-Zdrój. At that time, a group of criminals, posing as law enforcement officers, attempted to break into a company from Nowy Targ and steal nearly three million złoty. When the owners discovered the deception, the bandits opened fire on the building and fled.
A few weeks later they attacked an elderly man, taking jewellery worth 120,000 złoty from him.
In 2021, the Kraków justice system issued a warrant for the arrest of one of the attackers. At the same time, investigators from Katowice were searching for him in a case concerning drug trafficking – he was accused of distributing 60 kilogrammes of narcotics.
Since then he had been residing in Germany and Spain. A European arrest warrant and a red notice from Interpol were issued in his case.
A special unit of the Małopolska police, which deals with capturing the most dangerous criminals, established that the man had crossed the border undetected and was in the region. On Thursday, his arrest took place.
