Well-known MMA fighter Mamed Ch. sentenced to one and a half years in prison for car theft
A court has sentenced Mamed Ch., a former MMA and KSW champion, to one and a half years in prison and a fine. The case concerns, amongst other things, stolen cars and assault on police officers.
Verdict for former MMA champion: one and a half years imprisonment
Mamed Ch., one of Poland's most recognisable mixed martial arts fighters, has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison as well as a fine, according to RMF24. The verdict is not final, and the defendant has the right to appeal.
The proceedings concern several separate charges. According to the prosecution, Mamed Ch. took part in trafficking in stolen vehicles which were allegedly purchased in Czechia and Poland – including in Warsaw and Olsztyn – between 2016 and 2017. The charges also include involvement in the arson of two vehicles in Rybnik in spring 2017. The verdict further includes charges of insulting and breaching the bodily integrity of police officers in Olsztyn in autumn 2018.
The case was handled by the Śląski (Silesian) Regional Branch of the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption at the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. In July 2021, an indictment against 17 people was filed with the court in Tarnowskie Góry, with charges totalling 140 acts. Mamed Ch. was one of the defendants.
Born in 1980 in Grozny, the fighter has lived in Poland since 1997 and has held Polish citizenship since 2010. In his sporting career, he won the title of Polish MMA champion and international KSW world champion. He competed in rings including in the United States and Japan. He ended his career in December 2018.
