Police in Puerto Rico are searching for Joniel Domenech Torres, 25, after a court filed charges in his absence for first-degree murder and multiple violations of the Firearms Act, according to primerahora.com.
The incident occurred on 24 August 2026 in the Dr. Pila residential complex in Ponce. Omar R. Burgos Cintrón, 48, died after receiving several gunshots. According to the investigation, Domenech Torres shot him repeatedly and the victim died at the scene.
The case was handled by officer Francisco Álvarez of the Ponce Homicide Division, in coordination with prosecutor José Román, who ordered the charges to be filed.
The charges include violations of Article 93 D of the Penal Code—first-degree murder—and Article 249 A, for firing a firearm in a manner that poses a risk to public safety. Additionally, he faces charges under Law 168, the Firearms Act of Puerto Rico, which include carrying weapons without a licence, illegal use of semi-automatic or automatic weapons, and firing or pointing a firearm.
The court issued an arrest warrant with a global bail of $1 million. Police noted that Domenech Torres has a criminal history for violations of the Firearms Act and the Controlled Substances Act, and that there is also an outstanding arrest warrant against him with bail set at $70,000.
