Murder suspect arrested in Morovis linked to "Los Morales" gang

One of Puerto Rico's 12 most wanted fugitives captured in Río Piedras

Officers from the Arrest and Extradition Division of the San Juan area arrested Daniel Cuevas González, 20, in the early hours of Friday on Calle Padre Capuchino across from the Santo Domingo tailor shop in Río Piedras, according to elnuevodia.com.

Cuevas González was on the list of the 12 most wanted fugitives across Puerto Rico and faced an arrest warrant with a $4 million bail for his alleged link to the murder of Jason Díaz Torres, 34, which occurred on 11 April in the Torrecillas neighbourhood of Morovis.

Suspect in multiple crimes across three municipalities

Colonel Carlos Cruz Burgos, auxiliary superintendent of Special Operations, told media from General Headquarters that Cuevas González is "a suspect in numerous murders that occurred in the areas of Morovis, Manatí and Arecibo".

Cruz Burgos described the criminal organisation "Los Morales", of which he said the arrested man was a member, as "extremely violent". The group operates primarily in the municipalities of Morovis, Arecibo and Manatí. The colonel added that Díaz Torres, the victim of the April crime, was allegedly also a member of that organisation.

Firearms, ammunition and drugs seized during arrest

At the time of detention, authorities seized from Cuevas González a Glock 19X pistol, 9 millimetre calibre, cream coloured and allegedly altered to fire automatically, along with four magazines and 67 rounds of the same calibre. A Coach brand wallet and 448 crack cocaine capsules were also confiscated from him.

"He will now be brought before a judge and, if he fails to post bail, will be admitted to prison," Cruz Burgos said.

Active search for second suspect

Police are actively searching for a second fugitive linked to the murder of Díaz Torres. Inspector Moisés Colón identified the fugitive as Carlos Javier Rivera Otero, known in criminal circles as "El SuperJavi".

"He is part of the organisation and is linked to this murder in the Morovis area," Colón said of Rivera Otero.

Anyone with information about Rivera Otero's whereabouts can contact the Police confidential line at 787-343-2020, through direct messages to the @PRPDNoticias account on X, or through the Police department's Facebook page at facebook.com/prpdgov.
