Arrest in Condado: man accused of burglary and tool theft in tourist zone

Suspect detained for burglary in Condado; fails to pay $30,000 bond
Officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the San Juan Municipal Police arrested Cristian Peña Encarnación, 40, on Friday on suspicion of burglary, theft and property damage in the capital's tourist zone, according to wapa.tv.
The arrest took place at approximately 3:55 p.m. During the intervention, $400 in cash was seized from him.
The charges relate to incidents that occurred on 14 September 2026, around 5:20 p.m., when Peña Encarnación allegedly forced open the gates of an occupied residence at 1085 Wilson Street in Condado. According to the investigation, he stole electrical and plumbing tools valued at approximately $520. The property had not been recovered at the time the charges were filed.
Prosecutor Adriana Albort Ortiz filed charges for violations of articles 195(C), 182 and 198 of the Puerto Rico Penal Code.
The court determined probable cause for arrest and set a global bond of $30,000. After failing to post it, the defendant was admitted to the Bayamón Correctional Institution. Additionally, the court issued a restraining order under Law No. 121.
Juan Jackson, commissioner of the San Juan Municipal Police, highlighted the scope of the investigation. "This arrest is the result of an investigation that required follow-up, information gathering and analysis by our officers. That work allows us not only to respond to an incident, but also to establish possible links with other cases and bring persons under investigation for crimes that directly affect our communities to justice," he said.
San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo reaffirmed the administration's commitment to public safety. "We will continue to support our Municipal Police with the resources, technology and tools necessary to strengthen their work. Our commitment is to maintain an active presence, respond with firmness and continue building a safer city for those who live, work and visit San Juan," he said.
The San Juan Municipal Police indicated that it will continue its surveillance and investigation efforts to address property crimes in the capital's communities and tourist zones.
