Arrest warrant issued in absentia for homicide in the urban centre of Río Piedras
The Puerto Rico Police are searching for Kenneth Zavala Esquilín, 22 years old and a resident of San Juan, charged in absentia with first-degree murder and violations of the Firearms Act, according to elnuevodia.com.
Judge Ángel Rivera Miranda, of the San Juan Court, found probable cause for an arrest warrant in absentia against Zavala Esquilín for the homicide of Melvin Joel Algarín Nieves, 28 years old and a resident of Cataño, which occurred on 22 August at 12:15 in the morning.
According to the investigation by agent Rafael Pérez Castrodad, of the Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of San Juan, Zavala Esquilín "carried out the shooting death" of Algarín Nieves on Calle del Parque, at the intersection with Calle Padre Capuchino, in the urban centre of Río Piedras.
Prosecutor Barbara Pérez Santos filed charges for first-degree murder, endangerment to public safety or order by firing a firearm, carrying, transporting or using firearms without a licence, and for firing or pointing firearms.
Rivera Miranda issued the arrest warrant with bail set at $3 million.
