Charges filed in murder of young athlete "Yoshi" on PR-30

According to telemundopr.com, prosecutors filed charges on Monday against William Cotto Olmeda, 33, in connection with the murder of Joshell Rubén González Román, 19, which occurred in February on PR-30 in the direction of Caguas towards Gurabo.

Cotto Olmeda faces charges of first-degree murder and violation of the Weapons Law, with bail set at $600,000 which he was unable to pay. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8 July.

The body of González Román, known as "Yoshi", was discovered by a crane operator travelling on PR-30 who alerted authorities after noticing a vehicle with bullet impacts in the area. Agents found the young man inside the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to available information, the athlete was returning from taking his partner to work after having celebrated Valentine's Day the previous day together. Those close to him described him as an "exemplary" young basketball player.
