The Bayamón Court set a $1 million bail against Harry López, 52, a resident of Guaynabo, accused of murdering his in-law by stabbing, according to elnuevodia.com.

The incident occurred around 10:31 p.m. on Friday on PR-837 in the Santa Rosa I neighbourhood of Guaynabo. A call to the Emergency System 9-1-1 alerted authorities to a person wounded by a bladed weapon.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Ezequiel Gómez Rentas, 67, with a wound to the neck. Gómez Rentas, the defendant's in-law, was taken to a hospital in the area, where he subsequently died.

López was initially detained by officers of the Guaynabo Municipal Police. He had a criminal record for controlled substances from 2003 and an active arrest warrant for a traffic violation in the state of Florida.

The Bayamón Prosecutor's Office presented charges for first-degree murder and violation of the Weapons Law. Judge Miriam Stefan Acta found probable cause for arrest and set the million-dollar bail. Unable to pay it, López remained incarcerated in Bayamón jail awaiting the preliminary hearing.
