Judge Alba Calderón Cestero, of the Arecibo Court, found probable cause for arrest against Jerry Rivera Santiago, 65, accused of murdering José C. Román Medina outside a pharmacy in Hatillo, according to elnuevodia.com.
Prosecutor Ariel H. Chico Juarbe filed two charges against Rivera Santiago: first-degree murder and pointing and/or firing a firearm. The Department of Justice indicated in written statements that the crime occurred on 20 July, with the victim being Román Medina, 52, a resident of Barceloneta.
Calderón Cestero found probable cause on both charges and set bail at $100,000, which Rivera Santiago did not post. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for 5 August.
The Homicide Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of Arecibo determined that the defendant, who holds a firearm licence, allegedly opened fire on Román Medina at approximately 2:00 p.m. outside Campo Alegre Pharmacy, located on PR-130 highway.
At 2:18 p.m., the 9-1-1 Emergency System received a call alerting authorities to an altercation and a person shot. Municipal police arrived at the scene and found the body of Román Medina.
