Accused of ramming vehicle after victim refused to hand over phone

According to metro.pr, a 39-year-old man living in Comerío faces charges of attempted murder and damage after striking another person's car with his vehicle on 19 September.

The incident occurred on Calle Begonia in Comerío, where the victim was inside a stationary Toyota Corolla. In accordance with the police investigation, Norberto Ortega Cruz attempted to take the man's mobile phone; upon receiving a refusal, Ortega Cruz allegedly rammed the Toyota Corolla with a Jeep Liberty. Damage to the vehicle was assessed at $7,869.89.

Officer Luz D. Hance, assigned to the REPAPD Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in Aibonito, consulted on the case with prosecutor María Vara García. The prosecutor instructed that charges be filed under Article 93 A, for attempted murder, and Article 199, for damage.

The case was presented before Judge Roberto Capestany Quiñonez, who determined probable cause for arrest and set bail at $70,000. Ortega Cruz was unable to pay the bail, and was consequently booked and admitted to the Ponce Correctional Institution.
