Man charged in killing of athlete on Caguas road
A magistrate determined that there are sufficient grounds to arrest William Cotto Olmeda, 33, who is accused of the homicide of young athlete Joshnell Rubén González Román, which occurred in the Caguas area.
The accused must answer to justice for three counts of aggravated first-degree homicide, plus a violation of firearms possession and use legislation. He was ordered to pay bail of 600,000 dollars, a sum he was unable to raise, which is why he was remanded to a correctional facility.
The crime occurred in the early hours of 15 February, when the victim was driving on road PR-30 heading from Caguas towards Gurabo. González Román, a basketball enthusiast, had spent Valentine's Day with a woman and subsequently drove her to her residence. He was driving back after dropping off his romantic partner at her workplace when he was intercepted and attacked with gunfire.
His body was found without vital signs inside a vehicle.
