Local authorities are preparing raids and searches of residences linked to the homicide of a 36-year-old healthcare professional and mother of two, whose body was found in the Caguas area.
During a press conference, a senior law enforcement official—Colonel Manuel de Jesús, head of criminal investigations—confirmed that these procedures seek to gather evidence before the case reaches the courts. According to his statements, the local prosecutor's office wants to ensure it possesses all the necessary components to file formal charges. Once the searches are completed, the prosecution could be ready to proceed.
De Jesús clarified that requests for court orders were already in process to be executed in the coming hours.
The primary suspect is identified as Carlos Manuel Estefano Pino, a man in his seventies who at the time of his arrest was on conditional release related to a previous case of domestic violence resulting in death.
The victim's death, identified as Jennifer Marie Torres Castro, was initially reported as of undetermined origin. Subsequently, examiners from the Institute of Forensic Sciences observed injuries on the woman's face, which prompted a reclassification to intentional homicide.
The police official emphasised that the investigation line has consistently considered the possibility of femicide. Regarding the arrestee's involvement, he indicated that specialists are analysing various pieces of evidence and that, once forensic studies produce definitive conclusions, it will be possible to determine with certainty whether he was the perpetrator.
