A capital judge ordered the detention of a 33-year-old woman accused of sexual assault, indecent behaviour and abuse towards a nine-year-old child between 2018 and 2019.

Judge Alfrida Tomey Imbert, who presides over the San Juan Court, ordered the detention of Amanda M. Rodríguez Rivera, a 33-year-old woman, on Monday. The woman is accused of alleged sexual offences, indecent behaviour and abuse of a nine-year-old child that occurred in the island capital.
The Public Ministry charged her with a total of four counts: two related to sexual assault, one linked to indecent behaviour and another for child endangerment, according to information released by the local Justice Department. The investigation was conducted by the specialised unit for sexual crimes and protection of minors within the police force.
The alleged crimes attributed to the accused date back to 2018–2019, when the child was nine years old. Judge Tomey Imbert determined there were sufficient grounds to hold her in custody on all the charges brought against her, setting a joint bail of 400,000 dollars. Unable to post the bail amount, the suspect was transferred to a correctional facility.
A preliminary hearing to analyse the evidence was scheduled for 28 July.
