Bayamón couple charged with attempted assault on police officer with stolen vehicle
The Bayamón District Attorney's Office filed charges against Edwin Rivera Vega and Anais Michelle Gómez Santiago following a pursuit on 24 September. Both were remanded to jail with bonds of $350,000 and $150,000.
Two arrested after pursuit in Bayamón with stolen van
The Bayamón District Attorney's Office filed criminal charges against Edwin Rivera Vega, 37, and Anais Michelle Gómez Santiago, 29, following a police pursuit that occurred on 24 September, according to metro.pr.
According to the secretary of the Department of Justice, Lourdes L. Gómez Torres, police officers detected a white 2003 Ford Econoline in Bayamón that was reported stolen. When attempting to intervene, the driver accelerated and a pursuit ensued.
During the chase, Rivera Vega allegedly attempted to run over an officer of the Motor Unit of the Bayamón Municipal Police. He then abandoned the vehicle near the Urban Train station in Jardines de Caparra.
Both then made their way to the Martínez Nadal station, where police officers arrested them.
Prosecutor Rosalyn García Pastrana presented charges including aggravated damage, use of violence or intimidation, and resistance or obstruction against public authority. They were also charged with illegal trafficking in vehicles and parts, in addition to recklessness or negligence in breach of applicable laws.
Judge Carolina Guzmán Tejada of the First Instance Court of Bayamón determined probable cause on all charges. Rivera Vega was set a bond of $350,000 and Gómez Santiago a bond of $150,000.
Both were remanded to jail. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for 8 October.
