One year since the murder of Gabriela Nicole Pratts: family remembers her in Aibonito

Family members and friends of Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario placed an altar and banner on Tuesday at the Aibonito junction where the minor was murdered, on the first anniversary of her death, according to metro.pr. At the same time, the court held the seventh day of the jury selection process in the case against Anthonieshka Avilés.
During the court proceedings, a recess was declared following the swearing-in of witnesses who will participate in the trial. The defence lawyer, María Soledad Sáez, reported that the Public Prosecutor's Office has approximately 70 witnesses, whilst the defence will present its own witnesses along with rebuttal witnesses.
Sáez also responded to questions about a complaint filed with the Supreme Court relating to public statements made by former prosecutor Orlando Velázquez, who was linked to the case.
"I am very surprised because my colleague is a lawyer. That is, he can make statements like all the other lawyers," Sáez said to journalists at the court. However, she indicated that she would need to review the information before offering a more detailed opinion on the matter.
Gabriela Nicole's mother attended the court, although she did not make any statements to the press. Instead, she posted a message on social media in which she expressed deep pain at her daughter's absence and affirmed that she would transform that pain into strength to continue seeking justice.
The minor's grandfather, Alfredo Rosario, briefly shared the weight of the loss.
"I miss her very much. I have her close to my heart. I am nervous today... I don't feel up to talking," he said, visibly affected. When asked how he remembers her on this date, he replied: "She is with me in my mind every day. I carry her here."
A banner with the message was placed at the crime scene: "Death takes with it a pain that no one will ever be able to heal and love leaves a memory that no one will ever be able to steal."
An afternoon walk from the Police headquarters to the scene of the crime was planned as part of the commemorative events in memory of the minor.
After the recess, the court resumed jury selection for the trial against Avilés, a process that continues before the start of the substantive hearing. Avilés' mother, Elvia Cabrera, was found guilty of the murder of Pratts Rosario.
