A resident handed over his 2021 Kia after receiving an apparently legitimate payment receipt in the car park of a shopping centre in Carolina, but the transaction proved invalid.

On Monday afternoon, a resident fell victim to a scam whilst selling his car in the car park area of Shopping Court, in the municipality of Carolina.
The victim was offering a 2021 Kia Forte GT Line for just over 18,000 dollars. The alleged buyer showed him a document from the financial institution that gave the impression the money had already been transferred. Trusting the transaction, the owner handed over the vehicle.
Hours later, the bank informed the affected party that the supposed transaction had not been accepted. Realising he had been deceived, the man contacted the authorities.
The matter was referred to the Stolen Vehicles Division of Carolina so that investigators could conduct a thorough examination of the case.
