A 59-year-old man was arrested for assaulting his wife, aged 55. He was released, but with contact restrictions and monitoring.

The security forces in Viana do Castelo proceeded to arrest a 59-year-old man suspected of physically abusing his wife, a 55-year-old woman. The victim presented injuries that authorities classified as being of significant severity.
According to the Correio da Manhã, after being heard by the magistrate, the detainee regained his liberty, although with a set of limitations imposed. Among them, the need to vacate the family home and a total ban on communication with the victim. Additionally, he cannot move within 400 metres of the victim.
To ensure compliance with these conditions, an electronic monitoring ankle tag was fitted to him, which allows police authorities to supervise his movements and confirm that he maintains the mandatory distance.
The National Republican Guard took the opportunity to remind that crimes of violence within the family are of a public nature, and can be reported by anyone. The available channels include police stations, telephone contact, the Complaint Portal and the corporation's digital resources.
