The National Communications Authority has received more than 180 complaints from citizens contacted by fake inspection agents who claim criminal misuse of the victims' telephone numbers.

The National Communications Authority (Anacom) issued a warning on Monday about the growth of deceptive telephone contacts made by individuals improperly using the regulator's identity.
Between 25 May and today, the authority received more than 180 complaints from users. Citizens report having been approached by people presenting themselves as Anacom inspectors, citing alleged situations related to criminal misuse of the contacted person's telephone number.
In a statement, the regulator clarifies that it does not make telephone contacts of this nature and that the interlocutors in question have no connection to the institution. Anacom recommends caution to anyone receiving calls with these characteristics, warning of the risk of fraud.
The authority has not disclosed information about any arrests or identification of those responsible for the fraudulent campaign.
