Actor Nuno Homem de Sá has appealed to Lisbon's Court of Appeal against his conviction for domestic violence against ex-girlfriend Frederica Lima, according to reports in Correio da Manhã. At first instance, he was given a sentence of three years' suspended prison and ordered to pay three thousand euros to the victim as compensation.
The actor, who has always denied the facts described in the prosecution's charge—which were ultimately found proven by the court—is now seeking acquittal or, alternatively, a retrial.
Alexandre Guerreiro, Nuno Homem de Sá's lawyer, explained the grounds for the appeal to Correio da Manhã. "Following the reading of the judgment, it was concluded that the decision is marked by successive contradictions on the part of the court, both regarding the assessment of evidence and regarding the relationship between proven and unproven facts," he said. "For this reason, we had no option but to appeal in order to request that the Court of Appeal acquit Nuno Homem de Sá or order a retrial," Guerreiro added.
