Hit-and-run in Albufeira: 16 injured, driver detained with 1.29 g/l alcohol

The 35-year-old driver who hit 16 people on Oura Street in Albufeira will learn of the restraint measures this Thursday, after being heard by Albufeira Court on Wednesday, according to Correio da Manhã.
The hit-and-run occurred at 03:00 on Tuesday. Of the 16 injured, two were in serious condition — mostly young people between the ages of 18 and 35. Among the victims are also two military officers from the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The suspect, who was on holiday in Albufeira, registered a blood alcohol level of 1.29 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood at the time of detention. Before being intercepted, he attempted to flee from police. The hit-and-run occurred in an area where several bars are concentrated and which, during the night-time period, is prohibited from vehicular traffic.
The man was detained for the crimes of qualified assault, driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving. He was also submitted to toxicological tests.
The circumstances and motivations of the hit-and-run are being investigated by the Judicial Police (PJ).
