A 40-year-old man has been taken into custody by the Judicial Police in the city of Castelo Branco after being on the run for several days. The man is accused of firing five shots at another man, aged 33, on the afternoon of 20 April in a car park adjoining a large commercial establishment in Portalegre, as disclosed by the Judicial Police.

The victim sustained injuries to his left arm and legs but survived the attack. The incident is believed to have arisen following a prolonged dispute between two family clans, with the assailant having mistaken the target for a member of the other side.

The capture was carried out by the Local Criminal Investigation Unit of Évora, with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Guarda. Since the day of the crime, the whereabouts of the suspect had been unknown.

The detainee will be brought before court for questioning for the first time as a detained suspect, and restrictive liberty measures may be imposed.
