Two men aged 24 and 34 were arrested in Caldas da Rainha, in the district of Leiria, following the theft of a parcel distribution vehicle that occurred on Wednesday in the Rinchoa area, in Rio de Mouro, municipality of Sintra. The arrest was announced on Friday by the PSP, as reported by CNN Portugal.

According to a statement from the Public Security Police (PSP), the driver of the vehicle was preparing to exit the vehicle when he was "suddenly approached by one of the suspects, who grabbed and pulled him, adopting an aggressive posture and manner of speech". The fact that the suspect "kept one hand inside his pocket" led the victim to fear that he might be in possession of a firearm, intensifying the sense of threat.

The two suspects then entered the vehicle and fled, "hitting the victim with the vehicle's side mirror" during the escape.

The theft was immediately reported to the Porto Salvo police station. The tracking system installed in the vehicle enabled the real-time monitoring of the suspects' route, and they were ultimately intercepted by the PSP in Caldas da Rainha. The operation was coordinated by the Leiria District Command of the PSP and carried out in collaboration with the National Republican Guard (GNR) in Caldas da Rainha.

The swift recovery of the vehicle made it possible to preserve the parcel cargo that was inside. During the operation, a replica firearm was also seized from one of the suspects.

Both detainees reside in the municipality of Caldas da Rainha and were already listed as suspects in several thefts that occurred in the city, currently under investigation by the authorities, according to the PSP statement.

The two men will be brought before a court for the application of the respective preventive measures.
