Home of former State Health Secretary targeted in searches in corruption investigation
The residence of Costa Freire, a former head of the Health ministry, was subject to a search by the Judicial Police (PJ) during this month. The operation is part of an inquiry examining the favourable treatment of private companies by the Alcabideche Parish Council and the Cascais Municipality Council.
José Filipe Ribeiro, a lawyer serving his third term as head of the Alcabideche Parish Council, was constituted as a suspect in the case. The investigation focuses on alleged irregularities in the awarding of contracts to firms linked to the former State Secretary's daughters.
Two of the companies under scrutiny belong to Costa Freire's descendants. One of them has its registered office precisely at the residence of the former head of the Health ministry, which prompted the home search by the PJ.
The case involves suspicions of the crimes of corruption, abuse of office and unlawful economic participation, related to the awarding of contracts by the parish council and by the Cascais municipality.
