Foreign caretaker arrested in Lagos for double murder of foreign couple and body concealment

A 45-year-old foreign national was arrested in Lagos on suspicion of killing a couple with blows to the head and hiding their bodies in a cistern with chemical products.

The Judicial Police arrested a 45-year-old foreign national this morning, suspected of the aggravated homicide of a foreign couple in Lagos, according to policiajudiciaria.pt. The operation was conducted with the collaboration of the GNR in Lagos and was led by the Criminal Investigation Department of Portimão.

The victims, a 79-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, were healthcare sector entrepreneurs and had resided in Portugal for several years. The suspect was employed by the couple as a caretaker at the residence where the crimes occurred.

According to the investigation, the victims were struck with a blunt object, injuries that caused their deaths. The suspect then dragged the bodies into a water cistern on the property, where he attempted to decompose them using chemical products.

When located by the GNR in the vicinity of the location, the detainee was in possession of a substantial sum of money and valuable objects presumed to belong to the victims. The motive for the crime remains unknown.

The recovery of the bodies required a lengthy and complex operation, given the location and the condition they were in, with the participation of the Lagos Fire Department.

The suspect has no known criminal record. Charged with two counts of aggravated homicide and desecration of a corpse, he will be brought before the Criminal Investigation Judge of Portimão for initial questioning and the application of restrictive measures. He is in remand custody.
