On 11 June, PSP officers in Pombal arrested a 48-year-old man. The arrest was made to enforce a court order, as the man had been convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of minors.

The offences date from August 2008 and the following year, 2009. The victims were children related to the perpetrator by close family ties. The court found it proven that the individual exploited the proximity and trust he maintained with the minors to engage in sexual behaviour.

According to police authorities, the convicted man maintained sexually explicit conversations with the victims, sending audio and video recordings via WhatsApp. He intended in this way to build a relationship of trust that would facilitate him obtaining photographs of the children without clothing.

In one of the confirmed cases, during a visit by one of the minors to his residence, the man removed her clothing. The investigation proved that he took advantage of his easy access to the victims and the inherent vulnerability of their ages and family relationship.

At the time of the offences, the defendant was married and the father of four daughters. He had previously been the subject of alerts regarding incidents of domestic violence. The sentence became final in March 2026.

Following his arrest, the individual was transported to Leiria Prison, where he will begin serving his conviction of four and a half years in prison.
