Driver without licence fleeing PSP in Lisbon underwent alcohol and drugs tests
The driver of the car that caught fire on Avenida de Brasília after a 5 km chase by PSP remains hospitalised and will undergo surgery. The two passengers have already been discharged.

The driver of the vehicle that caught fire on Avenida de Brasília in Lisbon on Saturday morning has already undergone alcohol and drug consumption tests, according to Correio da Manhã. The man remains hospitalised and will be subjected to surgical intervention due to a pelvic injury sustained in the impact. The other two occupants of the car have already been discharged from hospital.
The chase lasted approximately 5 kilometres before ending in a spectacular accident involving two parked cars. The investigation has been handed over to the Traffic Division of the PSP in Lisbon, whose officers are awaiting the results of blood tests for alcohol levels and the presence of narcotic substances. These results will then be forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service, with the prosecutor deciding whether to add new charges to the accusation.
The driver is already facing several charges: he was driving without a driving licence, attempted to run over a PSP officer and drove in a dangerous manner. Only after recovering medical fitness will he be called to make a statement about the facts.
The incident appears to have been caused by the birthday celebration of one of the young people in the vehicle, an emigrant in Luxembourg. The Renault Clio driver took to the road without legal authorisation, which is why he ignored the stop order given by the PSP. The chase only ended with the accident.
One of the PSP motorcyclists who was pursuing the vehicle ended up saving the three young people, removing them from the car whilst it was already on fire.
