In a case in which businessman Mário Ferreira is accused of tax fraud, a defence witness denied that the establishment of a company in Malta was intended to evade the national tax authorities.
According to Correio da Manhã, the witness argued that the opening of the firm in the Mediterranean archipelago resulted from considerations of business management and commercial strategy, and did not constitute a mechanism for concealing income.
The court set the final submissions in the case for 2 July.
