A 34-year-old man was apprehended by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Friday, 26 June, in Ribeira Brava, on the island of Madeira, on suspicion of illicit drug trafficking.

The arrest took place in the context of a routine traffic control operation. When officers checked the documents of a light vehicle, they detected an intense and characteristic smell of drugs in its interior, which prompted a more detailed search.

During the search, police officers discovered that the driver was in possession of hashish, along with various objects habitually used in the illegal sale of substances. A total of 37.32 grams of hashish—approximately 74 individual doses—was confiscated, along with an electronic scale, a metal box for storing the substance, and 550 euros in cash. The authorities suspect that this money was derived from criminal activity.

The suspect was formally identified for the crime of drug trafficking. The PSP continues to carry out the necessary procedures for the full clarification of the case.
