Man arrested in Alfragide with two pistols after shots fired in Zambujal
According to Correio da Manhã, a 24-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in Alfragide, in the municipality of Amadora, in possession of two 9 mm firearms — a calibre reserved exclusively for police and military personnel. The suspect was found asleep, intoxicated, inside a stolen car.
The PSP operation began following a report received at Alfragide police station: a witness reported that an individual, aboard a vehicle, "appeared to have fired a shot into the air in Bairro do Zambujal and had been seen brandishing two firearms".
Criminal investigation officers immediately proceeded to the neighbourhood to locate the vehicle and suspect based on the description provided. They found the car parked with the man inside. "The driver was approached, who was found to be intoxicated and asleep inside the car, with two firearms visible between the car door and the seat where he was sitting," the PSP described.
Two pistols and ammunition seized
The suspect was arrested and the two firearms were seized: a Glock with nine rounds of ammunition and a Beretta with 15. Near the vehicle, a spent cartridge case was also collected, consistent with the reported shots fired.
The car belonged to a car rental company and had been stolen shortly before from Cova da Moura. The renter was threatened with a firearm during the theft.
Three shot in Cova da Moura on the same morning
On the same Sunday morning, also in Cova da Moura, two further incidents involving firearms were recorded, resulting in three people being shot. The PSP did not establish a direct link between those incidents and the arrest in Alfragide.
