The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested on Friday two airport workers in Lisbon on suspicion of drug trafficking, the institution announced in a statement released on Saturday, according to sabado.pt.
The two arrested men, aged 48 and 46, are employees of service providers at Lisbon airport. The authorities suspect that both were part of a criminal network responsible for introducing cocaine into the European continent through commercial flights originating in Latin America.
The operation, named "Falcon" and conducted by the PJ's National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking (UNCTE), resulted in the seizure of approximately 110 kilograms of cocaine, approximately €200,000 in cash, several vehicles, as well as other objects and documents associated with the crime.
The two suspects were submitted to a first judicial interrogation to determine applicable coercive measures. The investigation is being handled by the Lisbon Department for Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
