The Judicial Police detained, on Friday, two workers at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, as part of the so-called "Operation Falcon", reports jn.pt. The detainees, aged 46 and 48, are Portuguese citizens suspected of being part of a criminal organisation specialised in introducing large quantities of cocaine into mainland Europe.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Judicial Police, the two men provided services to operating companies at Lisbon airport and are believed to have used their position to facilitate the entry of narcotics brought by air, through commercial flights originating in Latin America.
During the operation, the authorities seized approximately 110 kilograms of cocaine in the possession of the suspects, approximately 200,000 euros in cash, several vehicles and other objects and documents of interest to the investigation.
The two defendants were brought before a judge on Saturday for an initial judicial hearing before the competent judicial authority for the application of a precautionary measure. The inquiry is being handled by the Lisbon Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP).
