Two men remanded in custody for drug trafficking in Ribeira Grande, Azores
Two men aged 43 and 65 were detained for trafficking in heroin and synthetic drugs on the island of São Miguel. They had already been arrested in May as part of the same investigation.
Remand in custody for suspects of drug trafficking offences in Ribeira Grande
Two men were remanded in custody following a police operation in Ribeira Grande, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, reported Correio da Manhã. The PSP announced the arrests on Monday, indicating that the suspects were "strongly suspected" of drug trafficking.
The two detainees are aged 43 and 65 and were identified by Ribeira Grande Police Station, which is part of Ponta Delgada Police Division, under the coordination of the PSP Regional Command for the Azores. The detention took place on Thursday.
Both had already been arrested in May as part of the same investigation, and had been subject to precautionary measures. Inquiries subsequently carried out "made it possible to gather new evidence that both continued to engage in the sale of drug substances", the PSP clarified.
Home searches and seizure of drugs
The operation included two home searches that resulted in the seizure of several doses of heroin and synthetic drugs. Various objects associated with the weighing, division and packaging of narcotics were also gathered.
Inside the two residences, several drug users were also identified, which, according to the PSP, reinforced the evidence of the unlawful activity under investigation.
Woman arrested on warrant
During the same operation, the PSP located and arrested a 32-year-old woman subject to an arrest warrant for the enforcement of a sentence of 113 days' imprisonment for theft. She was taken to the prison establishment to serve the sentence.
The PSP concluded that the operation "ended the unlawful activity under investigation, strengthening the prevention and combating of drug trafficking and contributing to the sense of security of the population".
