Two young men shot in the head in Barreiro: one dead, another in grave condition
A 24-year-old man died and another aged 22 is in critical condition after being shot inside a car on Rua 1.º de Dezembro, in Barreiro, at 3:00 am.

A 24-year-old man was killed and another aged 22 was left in critical condition in the early hours this week after a gunman fired at least eight shots at the interior of a parked vehicle on Rua 1.º de Dezembro, in Barreiro. Correio da Manhã established the details of the attack, which authorities are treating as an execution.
The two young men were inside the vehicle, parked outside a bar, when the gunman — the total number of attackers remains to be determined — suddenly appeared and opened fire with a weapon suspected to be automatic. Both were struck in the head.
Minutes before they were at a McDonald's
According to what CM established, the victims had been at a McDonald's restaurant a few metres from the crime scene, moments before the attack. They then stopped outside the bar, where they were waiting for the girlfriend of one of them, an employee of the establishment who was leaving at precisely 3:00 am.
It was residents of the street who raised the alarm, abruptly awakened by the sound of the burst. "At least eight", they confirmed, describing the screams that followed immediately afterwards.
Assisted at the courthouse entrance
Residents and bar staff attempted to provide assistance to the victims while waiting for the arrival of firefighters and the ambulance service. The location is a few metres from the Barreiro Court, in a residential area that is usually quiet.
The emergency teams found one of the young men already in cardiac arrest. He was transported to Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada, where he was declared dead. The second young man was taken to Barreiro Hospital, where he remains fighting for his life.
PJ takes up investigation
The PSP was alerted and mobilised resources to the scene. Because it is a homicide, the investigation was transferred to the Judicial Police. The suspect is believed to have left the scene without being identified by any witness, taking the weapon used with him.
The PJ is working to establish the motives for the attack. Among the public, the theory of a settling of scores is circulating.
