A 24-year-old woman was raped on 14 December of last year in Portimão while sleeping in her bedroom following a birthday party. The two attackers, aged 18 and 19, were friends of the victim's housemate and had met the woman during the event.
After the celebration ended, the victim went to her bedroom, located on another floor of the residence. While resting, she was surprised by the two youths inside the room. One of them carried out the rape whilst the other filmed the scene with a mobile phone. Subsequently, they switched roles, but the victim managed to free herself and raise the alarm, which caused the suspects to flee hastily.
Portimão's Judicial Police became aware of the case through a complaint filed by the victim herself the day after the crime. Six months later, investigators proceeded to detain the two suspects, thanks to the gathering of evidence and the seizure of the mobile phone used to capture the unlawful images.
The detainees were brought before court, where distinct coercive measures were applied to them. The youth who carried out the act remained in preventive detention, whilst the co-perpetrator was subject to a requirement to remain in his residence, as explained by Joaquim Trindade, director of the Portimão PJ, in statements to CM.
