The Public Security Police proceeded with the arrest of a 47-year-old man of foreign nationality at Lisbon airport. The individual had been sentenced to a custodial term of 11 years for the commission of serious crimes, namely aggravated robbery, rape and kidnapping.

The arrest occurred on Saturday morning at 08:00, in the context of the enforcement of a detention warrant issued by Portuguese judicial authority. The conviction had already become final, so the defendant was to begin serving his sentence.

Following the arrest, the man was transported to Lisbon Prison, where he will serve out the imposed conviction.

The PSP stressed that this arrest demonstrates the importance of the police force's specialised work in border control. Through behavioural analysis, documentary verification and targeted examination of passengers, these teams contribute decisively to the country's internal security.
