A foreign national aged 26 was detained on Thursday, 15 October, by the Judicial Police, through the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo Directorate, on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse of children. The victim is his half-sister, aged four, with whom the suspect cohabited, according to noticiasaominuto.com.
According to a statement from the PJ sent to newsrooms, the facts under investigation are believed to have occurred on 20 August. The authorities identified material elements capable of supporting the evidence of the crime.
The investigation included expert examinations carried out by the PJ's Scientific Police Laboratory, in coordination with the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. The results of these analyses contributed to consolidating the probative elements collected, the PJ statement notes.
Based on the steps taken and the means of proof gathered, the Public Prosecutor's Office issued a detention warrant, under which the suspect was located and detained.
Brought before a first judicial questioning at Loures Court, the defendant was remanded in custody.
Separately, the PJ also detained a 22-year-old man in Bragança on suspicion of sexual abuse of a minor aged 13. In that case, it was the school attended by the victim that reported the matter to the authorities.
