Former PSG player convicted of six years for jewellery shop robbery in Figueira da Foz
Walter Patrick, former PSG B and Naval player, was convicted by Coimbra Court for violent robbery in 2022. In total, the robberies attributed to the defendant amount to more than 135 thousand euros in gold.
Ex-PSG B player convicted of six years for series of jewellery shop robberies
Walter Patrick, former footballer who played for PSG (reserve team), Naval and Oliveirense, was convicted this week by Coimbra Court to six years in prison for robbery at a jewellery shop in Figueira da Foz in March 2022. The news was reported by Correio da Manhã.
The defendant, currently 33 years old, was on conditional release when he committed the robbery, a circumstance the court considered decisive for the sentence imposed. A second defendant was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
Modus operandi: reconnaissance and return with accomplice
The facts date back to March 2022. Walter Patrick first went to the jewellery shop on Largo do Carvão, in Figueira da Foz, under the pretext of viewing gold wedding rings, and was shown several pieces. About two hours later, he returned to the establishment accompanied by another man.
According to the prosecution, Walter Patrick entered behind the counter and grabbed one of the shop assistants while saying: "This is a robbery, don't speak, don't shout." The accomplice jumped over the counter, falling onto the other shop assistant and causing a fracture in one of her legs.
In total, at least 262 gold pieces were stolen, valued at more than 49,500 euros.
Arrested after another robbery less than two weeks later
Less than two weeks after the robbery in Figueira da Foz, Walter Patrick and his accomplice carried out an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Vialonga. The GNR detained them as they fled the scene. The modus operandi and clothes used in this crime later helped the authorities to clarify the previous robbery in Figueira da Foz.
History of violent jewellery shop robberies
The former player had previously served prison sentences for violent robberies at jewellery shops in other areas of the country, namely in Vila Franca de Xira and Torres Vedras, where shop owners were assaulted. In all the robberies attributed to him, violence was used against people.
In the three robberies combined, Walter Patrick and his accomplices stole gold pieces valued at more than 135 thousand euros. Some pieces were recovered at the time of arrest, as well as caps and other items used in the commission of the crimes.
