GNR seizes 400 kg of cocaine in Setúbal and detains suspect in Arrábida

The Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) of the GNR seized approximately 400 kilograms of cocaine in Setúbal and detained a man suspected of participating in a drug landing operation via sea, according to Correio da Manhã.
The detention and seizure occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, when guards detected suspicious movements in Arrábida Natural Park (PNA) during a patrol operation focused on coastal control.
"Realising this could be an illicit cargo landing brought by sea, an operation was initiated to intercept the suspects and prevent the cargo from being distributed or recovered by the suspects," the GNR said in a statement.
Captain Renca of the UCCF clarified in statements to Lusa that the landing occurred in an area "between Albarquel beach and the Comenda Picnic Park".
At least eight suspects were identified at the scene. Only one ended up being detained — the others fled on foot. Ground and air units were deployed to the area, allowing surveillance of the narcotics landing.
The operation had reinforcements from the National Traffic Unit, the Setúbal Territorial Command and support from the Maritime Police. In total, ten parcels of cocaine weighing approximately 400 kilograms were seized.
