A 31-year-old man was detained this morning on Motorway 5 (A5) in the municipality of Oeiras on suspicion of drug trafficking, according to information provided by the National Republican Guard (GNR). The operation resulted in the seizure of over 1,400 doses of narcotics.
According to dnoticias.pt, the detention occurred at approximately 11:00, in the Lisbon-Cascais direction, when officers from the National Traffic Unit (UNT) and the Setúbal Traffic Detachment intercepted a vehicle that appeared to have suspicious alterations to its constructive features.
During the vehicle inspection, officers detected "various narcotic substances and other elements associated with their potential commercialisation", according to a GNR statement.
Following a search of the suspect's residence, the authorities seized 1,192 doses of hashish, 92 doses of cocaine, 110 doses of crack and 22 doses of cannabis. Also collected were a bottle of nitrous oxide, a precision scale, two drug storage bags, two mobile phones and 5,845 euros and 70 US dollars in cash.
The suspect was formally charged and remains detained at the Sintra Territorial Detachment facilities, awaiting presentation at an initial judicial hearing for the application of precautionary measures.
The operation was carried out with the collaboration of the Sintra Territorial Detachment, the Lisbon Territorial Command of the GNR and the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP).
