GNR dismantles family drug-trafficking network in Alcobaça
The Criminal Investigation Unit of Caldas da Rainha of the GNR dismantled an alleged "family business" of drug trafficking in Alcobaça council, resulting in the arrest of three people — a father, his daughter and her boyfriend — according to Correio da Manhã.
The searches were carried out on Wednesday in the locality of Charneca do Casal do Guerra, with reinforcement from the Leiria Intervention Detachment and the Benedita Territorial Post. The officers had the three suspects under surveillance for approximately one month before proceeding with the operation.
A total of four searches were carried out: one residential and three in vehicles. The authorities found 1,552 doses of cannabis, seven plants of the same substance, five bags of drug packaging material and four digital scales. In the possession of one of the men were also two shotguns and 284 cartridges of calibre 12, all seized.
The three arrested have ages ranging between 22 and 67 years. The younger man, aged 33, was the one who illegally possessed the weapons and ammunition and was a repeat offender in the crime of illegal possession of firearms. This defendant was brought before a first judicial hearing at Leiria Court for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
The other two arrested were constituted as defendants and the case was forwarded to Alcobaça Court.
