Man accused of 20 crimes in Ponte de Sor remanded in custody after court escape
A 37-year-old man accused of 20 crimes, including five attempted murders, escaped from Ponte de Sor Court in May and subsequently surrendered to authorities.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Portalegre District announced that the man who escaped from Ponte de Sor Court — and who subsequently surrendered to authorities — is accused of a total of 20 crimes, according to radioportalegre.pt.
The 37-year-old defendant is charged with five attempted murder offences, three offences of resistance and coercion of an official, nine offences of aggravated threats, two offences of aggravated damage, and one offence of possession of a prohibited weapon.
According to the statement published by the Public Prosecutor's Office, much of the conduct is believed to have occurred in the context of a conflict between rival families. The defendant was to have been subject to his first judicial questioning on 13 May 2026, but assaulted the GNR military personnel accompanying him in the court building and managed to escape.
After appearing for questioning on 26 May, the court decided to apply the most serious precautionary measure, having found that the risks of flight, continuation of criminal activity, and serious disturbance of public order and peace were established.
The investigation continues under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Ponte de Sor, with the assistance of the Judicial Police of Évora.
