A 39-year-old man was placed under electronic surveillance after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence against his own mother in the municipality of Vimioso, in the district of Bragança.
The arrest took place on Thursday, following a report. Officers from the GNR attended the scene and established that, during an argument, the suspect threatened his mother and attempted to physically assault her.
On Friday, the man was brought before the Judicial Court of Miranda do Douro. The judge decided to apply the measure of electronic monitoring, also ordering that the defendant keep away from the victim's home and refrain from contacting her by any means.
The GNR emphasises that domestic violence crimes are of a public nature and that reporting them is a collective responsibility of society.
