Suspect in shootings outside nightclub in Montijo held in preventive detention

The Judiciary Police of Setúbal detained a 22-year-old man for attempted murder of two other individuals in Montijo, reports jn.pt. The suspect fired three shots at the interior of a vehicle where the victims, aged 26 and 27, were located in the early hours of 7 March.

The attack occurred in a public place, following a dispute that the three men had inside a nightclub. Both victims escaped unharmed, but the Judiciary Police emphasise that there was a "clear intention by the detainee to hit them seriously".

The authority adds that the facts "caused enormous social alarm", as they occurred near a very frequented nightlife establishment.

The investigation proceeded with difficulties, particularly in locating the suspect, despite the evidence gathered. The man was ultimately apprehended on Monday, with the support of the National Republican Guard of Montijo.

Brought before court, he was held in preventive detention on suspicion of attempted aggravated murder and possession and use of a prohibited weapon. The detainee had prior convictions for drug trafficking and aggravated assault.
