Suspect in drug trafficking arrested with hashish and cash in Póvoa de Santa Iria

The Public Security Police arrested, on 27 August, a 31-year-old man suspected of drug trafficking in the parish of Póvoa de Santa Iria, according to Google News PT — Crime (pt).

The intervention was carried out by the Police Division of Vila Franca de Xira in the course of a regular operational action. Officers ordered a vehicle carrying four occupants to stop — all initially denied possession of illicit substances, but police detected a strong smell of drugs.

During a security search of the passengers and vehicle, the authorities seized 34 individual doses of hashish, found in a bag located behind the right front seat, in the area under the suspect's direct control. In his possession, 1,060 euros in cash was also found, of uncertain origin and without proof of legitimate employment income.

A rapid test confirmed it to be hashish. Given the evidence collected, the individual was placed under arrest.

The suspect was subsequently released and notified to appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Court of the District of Lisbon North, at the Local Instance of Vila Franca de Xira.
