The Judicial Police arrested an individual aged 35 in the Portuguese capital who was the subject of a European arrest warrant requested by Belgium. The operation was carried out by the Criminal Information Unit.

The Belgian authorities accuse the suspect of having defrauded foreign workers who were in an illegal situation in the country whilst acting as a businessman. The facts date back to last year.

The man has been living in Portugal since September 2024, together with his family — his wife and daughter.

After being questioned at the Lisbon Court of Appeal, the detainee was subject to several restrictions: he cannot leave the country and must appear every week at the police station in the area where he resides. These measures remain in force whilst the extradition procedure to the Belgian authorities is ongoing.
