35-year-old man stabs father and neighbour in Monção, detained by GNR
A 35-year-old man was detained in flagrante delicto after attacking his father, aged 70, and an 80-year-old neighbour, in Monção. Both victims were hospitalised.
Knife attacks in Bairro do Estandarte leave two victims hospitalised
A 35-year-old man was detained by the GNR on Saturday afternoon after stabbing his father, aged 70, and an 80-year-old neighbour, in the centre of Monção, in Alto Minho. The two victims were transported to Viana do Castelo Hospital. The attacker will be presented for first judicial questioning this Monday morning at Monção Court, reports Correio da Manhã.
The incidents began at around 15:15 on Saturday, inside a dwelling in Bairro do Estandarte. For reasons still unknown, the suspect picked up a kitchen knife and attacked his father, causing him injuries. The father left the residence and ran in the direction of the GNR post, situated nearby.
The son came out onto the street with the knife still in his hand, in the direction of his father. During the course of events, he struck an 80-year-old neighbour, who suffered serious injuries. The GNR immediately went to the scene and detained the attacker in flagrante delicto.
The older neighbour was struck in the back. According to what Correio da Manhã established, the injuries, fortunately, did not affect vital organs. The fire service assisted both victims on site before transport to Viana do Castelo.
The investigation was placed in charge of the Judicial Police in Braga, which carried out proceedings in the area of the incidents. The suspect is indicted for two attempted homicide offences and awaits the application of coercive measures following the first judicial questioning.
